"Ai"
is the beginning of the Kanji for Aikido
and means "Harmony."
It is often described
as an open box or a house. |
"Ich" is the number one.
When added to another symbol
it brings the idea of solidarity.

When Unity Martial Arts moved to Little Rock, it was time
to choose a name for the new location. Sensei Tanner chose
a Japanese name: Gouitsu Dojo. The Gouitsu symbol shown
below means "many different parts harmonizing as one."
